#EndlessBBQ v6.0 for SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket and Dragon Spacecraft

SpaceX Dragon Capsule Image

On May 19, 2012, SpaceX will attempt to to be the first commercial company to send a space craft to the International Space Station. To celebrate this monumental event and the shared interest of everyone coming to see it, we will be throwing our 6th #EndlessBBQ at Cocoa Beach Brewing Company (150 North Atlantic Avenue  Cocoa Beach, FL 32931) on Saturday evening at 6:00PM.

Since this EndlessBBQ will be during the week and we’ll be working around a busy work week schedule, we’re going to do a pot luck of appetizers and/or finger foods. We ask that anyone attending to please bring a simple dish even if it’s from the local supermarket. There will be two large tables setup on the outside deck for all the food. No monetary donations are required but if you’d rather contribute that way, its always welcomed.

If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you and we hope to see you there!

The first #endlessBBQ in Australia mentioned on Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex website

While spacetweeps here in Florida were immersed in Thanksgiving plans, MSL launch activities and #endlessBBQ v5.0, our counterparts in Australia were enjoying their first #CSIROtweetup (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation), and the associated #endlessBBQAus. We were glad to see the tradition spread to yet another continent, and really happy to see this great post about the #CSIROtweetup– including a mention of the #endlessBBQ! Big thanks to @astro_geeky for helping to spread the tradition!

#EndlessBBQ v5.0 for MSL/Curiosity – Nov 26

For this #EndlessBBQ, we thought we’d try something a little different.  Yesterday I put a question out on Twitter asking if anyone would be interested in doing a space themed Cupcake Camp for the Mars Science Laboratory/Mars Curiosity  launch celebration on November 26 at about 6pm.  As I expected, many of you favored this idea.

What is a Cupcake Camp you ask?  Cupcake Camp is “an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and eat cupcakes in an open environment.”  Founded by Ariel Waldman & friends a few years ago, Cupcake Camps have been held all over the world.  And now is our chance to have one of our own here in Cocoa Beach, Florida and at the same time, share our common love for space.

Just like the previous #EndlessBBQs, Cupcake Camp Cocoa Beach will be free to everyone attending, however, you are welcome to make a small donation if you choose.  We will need volunteers to either make or purchase space themed cupcakes to bring to this event.  If you’re interested, please say so in the comments below or send me a message on Twitter.  We are looking for every provider to bring at least 6 cupcakes but no more than 12.  If you’d prefer to purchase cupcakes or even cookies, you’ll find several grocery stores in the area like Publix, Wal-Mart or Winn-Dixie that all sell them.

Our friends at Cocoa Beach Brewing Company have graciously offered to host #EndlessBBQ v5.0/Cupcake Camp Cocoa Beach.  They have several award winning locally brewed beers (see site link above for details) and a very spacious beer garden to accommodate us all.  If you’d like to see pictures from previous #EndlessBBQs, click through the Flickr photo gallery on the right.  You can also follow Cocoa Beach Brewing Company on Twitter or like them on their Facebook page.

We are very excited about the MSL Mission and #EndlessBBQ v5.0/Cupcake Camp Cocoa Beach on November 26 @ ~6pm. We hope to see you all there!

#EndlessBBQ v4.0 is GO!

We are excited to announce that we have found the perfect venue, so #endlessBBQ v4.0 for the GRAIL launch is going to happen. The event will be held at the Cocoa Beach Brewing Company– we get to use their new deck (which is under construction now). We are accepting sponsorships at this time (contact jen at endlessbbq dot com to arrange), and we look forward to seeing all of you GRAIL #NASATweetup-ers (and other spacetweeps attending the launch) there.

We are currently targeting the afternoon/evening of September 8th for the BBQ; we will make an announcement if that date changes. Here is a link to the event on Plancast. More details to come as we work them out.

#EndlessBBQtour is coming!

#EndlessBBQ is hitting the road- on another continent!  We organizers- @CraftLass, @herrea, and @flyingjenny- are excited to announce that we are headed to Cologne, Germany for the DLR-ESA #Spacetweetup and German Aerospace Day on September 18th. After that, we’re planning to share the #endlessBBQ experience around Europe a bit. We are looking forward to catching up with our spacetweep friends and meeting many more new ones.

We’re not really sure where we should go after Cologne, so now is your chance to help us decide. Want us to stop in your area? To make a request please fill out this form. Hope to see you there!

#endlessBBQ v2.0 Video

Here’s a great video of the event made by the very talented Dennis Bonilla, @harbingeralpha. Thanks, Dennis!

Success!

We made this amazing sign with the magnetic LEDs that @thinkgeek sent us

We are overwhelmed at the wonderful response to #endlessBBQ v2.0 and thrilled that so many of you were able to make it. We had a great time, and from the sound of things, most of you did too. Our best guess at how many were in attendance was around 250. That is based on us going through 160 name badges, 25-30 improvised name badges when those ran out, 36 staff and sponsor badges, and dozens more with no name badges at all after we ran out of the improvised ones.

Even with that many people, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, despite the heat and evil mosquitoes. Not surprisingly, the local sheriffs made an appearance once, but it was only due to cars parked on both sides of the street. Once they were moved to our auxiliary parking lot, everything was fine. There was great food, amazing live music, a wonderful DJ, swimming, #endlessBBQ and space swag giveaways, and more. What made the event truly epic was the people who were there. Everyone was friendly, cooperative, and just downright pleasant. Special thanks to our staff who really worked hard at cooking, cleaning, serving, shopping, setting up, DJing, performing, supplying and setting up equipment for streaming video, and more. We also want to thank those of you who brought swag to give away, created glittery shuttle body art for guests, lugged heavy camera gear and took amazing photos and videos, brought a huge telescope, built an impromptu microphone stand with a tiki torch, fan, and duct tape, and so on. You all rock.
